Liz Seager
NZ Registered Mathematics Teacher and Mathematics Education Specialist
Liz Seager is a respected Mathematics educator with extensive experience teaching and supporting learners across New Zealand schools and educational settings.
After completing a double degree with majors in Mathematics, English and Education, Liz has taught in state, integrated and private schools throughout the Waikato region. Most recently, she was Head of Mathematics at Waikato Diocesan School for Girls.
Liz has a wealth of experience supporting learners both inside and outside the classroom. She has taught Mathematics across a wide range of year levels and has worked with students of different abilities, learning styles and levels of confidence.
From high-achieving students seeking extension to learners who require additional support, Liz encourages every student to progress within their own learning journey and become the best version of themselves.
A safe space to ask questions
For Liz, tutoring should provide a safe and supportive environment where every question is valued.
Students have often missed one important idea or foundational concept that is now hindering their progress. One-to-one tutoring gives them the time and confidence to ask questions, revisit earlier learning and receive the explanations they need.
With a background in both Mathematics and English, Liz also understands the importance of language in Mathematical learning. She teaches students strategies to unravel questions, identify what they are being asked to do and communicate their thinking effectively.
Students are encouraged to explore different ways of solving problems, helping them develop creativity, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of Mathematics.
Individual support that meets students where they are
Maths Momentum provides personalised one-to-one Mathematics tutoring for:
Students in Years 6 to 13
Tertiary bridging-course students
Adult learners
Students can receive support with their current classroom learning, address gaps in their knowledge or focus on particular topics, assessments and examinations.
Rather than simply memorising a process, students are supported to understand what they are solving, why a method works and how they can apply it confidently.
Tutoring sessions
Sessions are held one-to-one with Liz and run for up to one hour. Tutoring is available:
In person
Online
On a regular term-by-term basis
As an occasional or additional session, subject to availability
Some flexibility is also available, including in-person tutoring for pairs of students where appropriate.
